Things to do in West Lancashire

West Lancashire is perfect for kids who love the outdoors. The county is home to two popular animal farms – the Windmill Farm and Farmer Ted’s – where you can feed baby lambs, visit tropical reptile rooms and cuddle with guinea pigs. You can let the kids do it too, if you’re feeling generous!

You’ll find a prime example of West Lancashire’s curated countryside at Southport’s Botanic Gardens. Open since 1874, the gardens are the perfect spot for a day trip with a heated fernery, a horticultural museum, and an aviary full of exotic birds.

The wilder slopes of West Lancashire can be found at several wetland reserves: the RSPB’s Hesketh Out Marsh, the Wildlife Trust’s Mere Sands Wood, and the WWT’s Martin Mere. You can even visit a rare salt marsh at the mouth of the Ribble estuary, home to redshanks, lapwings, and pink-footed geese.

West Lancashire golf courses are plentiful, from the wind-battered Formby and Southport links to the hilly fairways at Ormskirk and Kirkby Valley. Many villages also have angling clubs and fishing lakes, while you’ll find moorings, marinas, and canal boats along the Ribble, the Mersey, and the coast of the Irish Sea.

The North West’s coastline is the perfect spot for day trips, with the Southport Adventure Coast, the Splash World waterpark and Formby Beach a stone’s throw away from our new builds in West Lancashire. You can also try your hand at watersports, bask on the Southport sand strip, or hike along the Crosby beach.
